How to can fish for salt and fresh water species throughout the year

The truth is, I have always been a big fisherman. From my days on muddy rivers as a teenager in Baltimore, Maryland by stays life in London, England, Paris, France, Barcelona, Spain and Colombia, South America I tried always a way to get a line in the water somehow.

A fishing year cycle

During my time in Philadelphia life I read regularly fishing and pages in the Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia daily news tabloid for a reference to the offshore action in New Jersey of Brielle and Belmar Cape May reported. If reports tended to the encouraging side, I'd mid-regional New Jersey, on a party boat to get coast to saddle and head for the. More than often, the captain and I did our jobs and as soon as the fish I were eager to my share of what schools of fish we about anchored to work were hooks. Not much skill was involved, but some knowledge of bait, rigs and tackle was often helpful.

The migration of the various species along the East Coast U.S. kept me go on regular trips in most parts of the year. Spring meant smaller blues and Weakfish. Summer offered the occasional captured the beach flounder, Sciaenidae or Tautog with their bait steal expertise and tasty fillets. Autumn almost always meant large, "Slammer" blues, which could bury the line in your bleeding hands and fingers in a Flash, the occasional small shark or sea eel and a variety of ocean Panfish such as spots, sea bass and Ling.

Winter kill

Already in December, I saw for the full moon. Why? Because that was my cue for night go whiting. Average not only do these one pound or so fish take several hooks on your line in twos, threes and fours, but they are great fun to catch, make good food and are abundant. The only catch was the weather. Full moon nights in early winter brought temperatures as low an Eskimo would make them blush. The wind worked with healthy gusts regularly, that you always hold with one hand or the risk of swimming with Davey Jones. The waves were murder. We all dressed for winter-kill.

I had lost I practically as many layers of clothes count. A wool CAP, hooded parka, ski mask and scarf were all just for my head. The boat was full of Fischer with a pint in your pocket. Almost everyone in the night, which boat went home with a hundred or more fish whiting. The terminal tackle was also different. No cut live bait here. A thin spoon with a fluorescent plastic tube was manipulated all that you need for the busiest time of your life needed fishing. Often, this would be my last trip of the year until the following spring, when the annual cycle and would start again.
