Part 2 - salt water fishing with all your five senses

Why didn't oh why I wear gloves?

We prepared our gear and left lines, a row with a white feathered, lead-headed Jig manipulated. My 40 pound test Mono with my latest "secret weapon", was a homemade stainless steel, polished silver spoon manipulated and 4 stainless steel single barbed wire hook (shown in photo). It took longer to warm up for things. On a day way the coast of Colombia's "La Ensenada" National Park it almost never does.

I WinCE when the blue tightened Mono to my bare palm. Strong, wet and angry had ahold of my spoon grabbed. Now I was the price to pay. Crimson dripped into the deep blue depths with each lunge. It is waters receiving illegal fish with a rod and reel, long line, Trotline or network in the Park, you see.

"Fish on!" I croaked still wincing but Pepe was before me. He had seen crack aft strike as my whole arm. It had to be a pretty big tuna or albacore, perhaps a considerable Sierra how could strike and fight, but my money was on an albacore. This ball-shaped fish have two speeds: over-the-speed-limit quick and full throttle overdrive. These speedsters can plunge a unsuspecting Fischer overboard in a Flash. Select your line like a runaway train. The sudden stress is aligned often only the row. If your staff is not ready or hard enough, you are also snap off. On occasion, to small sharks, especially early in the morning, would meet in the late afternoon and darker, low barometer days.

Dorado, Agujón, tuna, albacore, Sierra or shark?

"What you think, Dorado, albacore or Aguja?" asked the pattern of the fight to watch Pepe, who was sharp.

Often, said what your line was good at the other end, before the fish always in sight. If indeed there was always in sight. Bend my biceps against a unwilling guest I thought about his words. A Dorado would take a while if I didn't want to risk a snapped line to land. This gold, blue and green, round-headed beauties were strong and could be slightly heavier than my line strength. A steel-tube-shaped Aguja (needle fish), would easily right snip by Mono from up to 100-pound test if teeth, which ever achieved its rows razor blades on the 18-inch stainless steel guides called. Even the wire leaders would bend if I in "OLE toothy" landing took too long. Only sharks and Piranha have more fearsome JAWS as an Aguja. "Hissing" sound of the line through the soft swells told me that we were now in deeper waters. Changing colour from green to deep blue served only to confirm this. Deeper water was darker than the rays of the Sun from the ground not reflect. Minutes later, gaffed was nearly 15 pounds albacore and swung on board.

Their ears can splash, Baitfish and the robbers who say to you. Hear waves for the sounds of other boats, crash against hidden and reefs near the shore. Their eyes you constant information on depth and lower cover. The smell of the open ocean differs from nearshore area with your notes rain forest vegetation and palm groves, the lining of the salt water beaches caressed. You can feel the movement of your quarry in the waves, like swirls dives, circles, turns, beating and rises in efforts to rid itself of an unknown enemy. Try the salt fog, the cool fresh water rain and the refreshing chill by the well-deserved "cold one" you have after a heavy battle - no matter who wins what you.

Try fish with all five senses. You will be surprised how much the enjoyment will improve all your fishing experience.
